Eczema Clinical Trial FAQs

Eczema, clinically known as atopic dermatitis (AD), is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes red, itchy, and inflamed patches of skin. It commonly affects the hands, feet, inner elbows, behind the knees, and face, though it can appear anywhere on the body. Symptoms include intense itching, dry and scaly skin, thickened or cracked skin, and flare-ups triggered by allergens, irritants, stress, or weather changes. Atopic dermatitis is the most common form of eczema and often begins in childhood, though it can develop or persist into adulthood.

To be eligible for the eczema clinical trial at Clinical Research of West Florida, participants must be between ages 18 and 65, have active atopic dermatitis (eczema), and must have previously been treated with at least one standard of care therapy for atopic dermatitis. Final eligibility is confirmed through a screening visit with the study team at the Clearwater facility.

Participants in the CRWF eczema clinical trial may receive up to $2,400 in compensation for their time and travel for completed study participation. If you qualify, all study-related care is provided at no cost and no health insurance is required to participate.

Participation in the CRWF eczema clinical trial may involve up to 15 visits over a period of up to 26 weeks at the Clearwater facility, 2147 NE Coachman Road, Clearwater, FL 33765. Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants may withdraw at any time.

Eczema is a general term that describes several conditions causing inflamed, itchy skin. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema, often associated with a personal or family history of allergies, asthma, or hay fever. In everyday language, ‘eczema’ and ‘atopic dermatitis’ are frequently used interchangeably. The current CRWF eczema study enrolls participants with active atopic dermatitis / eczema.

The CRWF eczema study is exploring investigational therapies for eczema / atopic dermatitis designed to help manage and alleviate symptoms. Participants in the current study must have previously been treated with at least one standard of care for atopic dermatitis / eczema.

Potential benefits include the chance to explore new investigational treatment options, no insurance required, study-related exams provided at no charge, compensation up to $2,400 for time and travel, and the opportunity to contribute to future medical advances for eczema / atopic dermatitis. Some participants may not experience direct improvement in their condition.
